Leaders of the Labour Party in Enugu State’s Lejja and Ukehe Local Government Areas (LGAs) on Saturday dismantled their organisation in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party in advance of the 2023 election (PDP).
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, governor of Enugu State and PDP candidate for the Enugu North Senatorial District, welcomed the decampees, who were accompanied by Uchenna Okpe.
Okpe stated in his speech that they joined the PDP because they believed in “the laudable efforts” of Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration to bring democratic benefits to the neighbourhood.
“Your Excellency, all of the individuals who came with me to this location are Labour Party members, but given the current state of affairs in Lejja and the start of your administration’s road construction, we have made the decision to join the PDP.
“Your Excellency, I am very appreciative that construction on this road has begun. To win your senatorial election on the PDP platform, we are going to work with you and support you, Okpe said.
