Oyo State Owned Tertiary Institutions: JAC Set To Suspend Strike, Give Conditions

The Joint Action Commitee are set to resume back to work after a meeting with Oyo State Government.

The JAC seven (7) weeks strike may end this week after negotiation with government. Hence, the JAC in a publication released by COEASU Chairman has stated conditions (which has been agreed by both parties) that must be met before resumption.

He further stated that the strike will be suspended after the due process of JAC meeting on Wednesday, and individual congresses after. He (COEASU Chairman) also expects April salaries to be paid before Wednesday and all provisions base on the agreement by the parties.

“The negotiations between JAC and The State Government reached a crescendo today with an agreement. Following exhaustive deliberations on the tripartite demands of JAC which necessitated the ongoing industrial action about seven weeks ago. Both parties agreed thus:

“(1) Eleven months minimum wage arrears; this will be defrayed in the following order
April 2021 salary — 2 months
September 2021 salary — 3 months
December 2021 salary — 3months
March 2022 salary — 3 months.

“(2) Augmentation of salaries; The Government shall consider the financial strength of each Institution and do the needful to ensure that each Institution pays salaries as and when due.

“(3) Platinum; Each Institution shall submit her required expenditure for each semester, which shall be considered for approval in a meeting of Management, Council and Ministry at the beginning of each semester. This is to forestall the need to visit Platinum with cap in hand through out the semester.

“(4) Domestic agitations; Each Council/Management is to discuss with their Institution’s Unions on all outstanding issues and report back to government for prompt action.

“Following this resolutions, the strike action shall be suspended after the due process of a JAC meeting on Wednesday and individual Congresses thereafter. By which time it is hoped that April salaries would have been paid alongside the provisions of this agreement.
