Osun State To Host NANS Southwest Election (Details)

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest axis (Zone D) has disclosed that the association next election will be coming up in September and it will take place in Osun state.

The decision was made In the just concluded Pre-convention held at Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Lagos state.

This implies that NANS Southwest zone under the leadership of Comr. Kappo Olawale Samuel from Lagos State University (LASU) will be bowing out of office soon. The leadership that came into power after majority vote in the convention held at Lagos State College Of Health, Yaba Lagos in December 2019.

BEING THE COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS SOUTHWEST ZONE (NANS ZONE D) PRE-CONVENTION HELD AT MICHAEL OTEDOLA COLLEGE OF PRIMARY EDUCATION, EPE, LAGOS STATE ON SATURDAY, 7TH OF JULY, 2021.

The Congress started at exactly 3:00pm with Opening Prayer, National Anthem, Aluta Anthem and Aluta gyration led by the Coordinator of the Zone (Comrade Kappo Olawale Samuel), after which proper introduction of all Executives, Stakeholders, JCC Chairmen and Senators of the zone was observed.

The Coordinator read out the agenda for the sitting to the house and the floor was open for nomination of three (3) communique drafting committee members which brought in Comrade Otitoju Daniel (Hadura) from Ogun State as the Committee Chairman, Comrade Lawal Jamiu Adebayo (Deelaw) from Osun State as the Committee Secretary General and Comrade Edu Adam Olayiwola from Lagos State.

ATTENDANCE:

The Pre-Convention was widely and massively attended by Students, Comrades, Stakeholders, JCC Executives, Zonal Executives and about Forty-Two (42) SUG Presidents (Senators).

SPECIAL RECOGNITION:

Special recognition was given to the Provost, Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Epe, Lagos State for hosting the entire students in the zone in his campus despite all odds. In his speech (the Coordinator), also gave kudos to the hosting senator for making available a suitable hall to host the Pre-Convention.

Ondo State JCC former chairman (Comrade BabTee) was honorarily invited and recognized alongside one time Lagos JCC Chairman (Comrade SMS).

Senator Pablo, SUG President Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State raised an observation that the leadership of the zone are expected to give account of the administrative achievements in office.

Senator Impeccable (SUG President, Osun State Polytechnic Iree, Osun State) objected that there is no need to request for account of office any longer since it was supposed to have taken place even before the pre-convention.

Comrade Samrich (Chairman, JCC Ogun State Axis) supported that the account of office by the leadership of Zone D should be given in a concise motive in order to save Comrades traveling back.

STATE OF AXIS REPORT

JCC OGUN AXIS
The JCC Chairman (Comrade Samrich) pronounced the axis as peaceful with no issues.

EKITI STATE AXIS
The JCC Chairman (Comrade Olamide) said all is well with the students structure in the state.

OSUN STATE AXIS
The JCC Chairman (Comrade Oyelayo Afeez Ewe) said with collective efforts of all his Senators, the state structure remains peaceful.

LAGOS STATE AXIS
The JCC Chairman boldly informed the house that the Students Union Government of YABATECH and UNILAG would be reinstated before the end of the year which will be a great achievement by the JCC AXIS.

ONDO STATE AXIS
The JCC Chairman of Ondo Axis was unavoidably absent.

OYO STATE AXIS
Reports were welcomed from senators from the axis:
Federal School of Statistics, Ibadan: All was said to be good on thier campus.

Federal School of Survey, Ibadan: The SUG President (Senator Opeyemi) complained bitterly about the unavailability of access to lecture rooms needed instrument were kept by students after lecture hours since the provost has instructed closure of lecture halls immediately after lectures, the bad mechanical state of their union bus and lastly he briefly made mention on threat to the union by the institution management.

Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo: All was said to be good on their campus.

Federal College of Education, Oyo (Special): The SUG President (Senator Avila) complaint bitterly on the hike in SIWES charges paid by students of the institution and seek the intervention of the leadership of the zone.

Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate: The SUG president complaint of not getting funding from the school management neither the state government and the coordinator of the zone nodded to be aware of the situation going on.

The Coordinator declared 5minutes recess i.e a short break (4:36pm-4:41pm)

NOMINATION OF CONVENTION DATE AND VENUE:

Senator Aduragbemi (EKSU) nominated Ekiti State to host the convention of the zone and his nomination was countered by the Lagos State SUG Pesident-Elect, Comrade BadeCious.

The SUG President of Tai Solarin University of Education (Senator Rabiu Sodiq) nominated Ogun State to host the convention and the nomination was not seconded leaving it void.

The SUG president of Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate nominated Osun State to host the convention and his nomination was seconded by Comrade Dynamic, SUG president of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Otto Ijanikin, Lagos State.

The SUG President of Bamidele Olomilua University Education, Ikere Ekiti and Micheal Otedola College of Primary Education, Epe, Lagos State also seconded the nomination that Osun State should host the convention. Leaving no other nomination, Osun state was concluded to host the convention of NANS Zone D for 2021.

The Coordinator moved to the nomination for the date of the convention:

Senator Ezekiel from Federal School of Statistics, Ibadan nominated September and was immediately countered by Senator Abayomi.

Senator Abiola of Osun State College of Education, Ilesa nominated October and was immediate countered by Senator Bayonle.

The leadership of the zone concluded to pick the date for convention since two nominations have been countered to save the argument of dragging when the convention is to hold. The Coordinator announced September as the proposed month for the convention to hold and there was no objection to this pronouncement.

A.O.B:
The immediate JCC Chairman of Ondo Axis gave a brief speech where he paid homage to Comrade SMS and other stakeholders and comrades present in the house. He appreciated the leadership of the zone for having paddling the canoe of the zone for the whole while and admonished all comrades to always safe guard the image of the zone since that is our home.

Comrade SMS advised all aspirants to work with the senators of the zone since no post can be attained without the support and vote of the senators and also reminded everyone to remember that in all doings, there is always life after NANS.

The Coordinator declared a one minute silence for all lost gallant dead comrades who died in the field of struggle.

VOTE OF THANKS
The vote of thanks was passed by given Comrade Oladoja Mubarak, the Secretary General of the zone.

CONCLUSION:
The pre-convention came to an end in a peaceful manner and it was rounded up with a closing prayer by the Public Relations Officer of the zone, Comrade Olatunji Nurudeen at exactly 5:26pm.
