NIGER DELTA STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT
Being a Communique Issued At the End of the National Congress Of the Niger Delta Students Union Government on Tuesday 30th November 2021 at the University Of Calabar, Cross River State.
The Niger Delta Students Union Government(NIDSUG) is the apex body Students body in the Niger Delta region that provide effective and administrative leadership for all Students from the nine Niger Delta State of Abia, Akwa-ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers State in all part of the country and Diaspora with the main aim of protecting their interests, coordinating their activities and promoting educational development and the socio political value of the region and delivering efficient services by encouraging leadership and entrepreneurship training, skills acquisition, empowerment and scholarship scheme and creative supplementary educational materials aim at preparing them(Niger Delta Students) productively for social impacts and community development , aggressive pursuit of life dream, development of Niger Delta and National transformation.
STATE OF THE REGION:
The Niger Delta Region is currently the most peaceful region in the country devoid of bandit, militancy, insurgency and the incessant kidnapping plaguing other sections of the country today. The region enjoys unity of diversity, peaceful coexistence among the mirad of Chiefdoms, tribes or even state. Perception and practice of creating one ethnic minority group against another minority group is rare in the region.
The NIDSUG congress frowns at the high rate of unemployment, poverty and lack of infrastructural development in the region as compare to other countries in the world that produce the volume of oil that we produce in our region. Lack of socio economic development, quality education, youth empowerment, social impact, community Development and absence of NDDC board also took centre stage in the Congress.
Congress call on the Federal government to as a matter of urgency constitute the long awaited board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) immediately swing into action and meeting the aspiration and socio economic needs of the region. The Niger Delta people is suffering in the midst of abundance and we want the situation change.
Congress demands that all the Federal Government interventionist agency designed to meeting the aspiration and meeting the socio economic need of the Niger Delta Region should as a matter of urgency swing into action to implement the core objectives on which it was created to achieve and the multinational cooperation operating in the region should human capital the development of the people in the Region.
Congress urge the Niger Delta Governors to develop a supplementary security outfit that will partner with the Federal government security agencies in combating insurgencies , crimes and maintaining security and sustainable development in the region. Further urge the interventionist agencies of the region ranging from NDDC, PAP, NDBDA, MNDA, BRACED Commission etc. to come up with an initiative that will alleviate the environmental hazards faced in the region e.g the black sooth, oil spillage. etc.
STATE OF THE UNION:
The Niger Delta Students Union Government(NIDSUG) is a union that was design to harness the leadership potentials of the Niger Delta Students and to prepare them for regional impact and community transformation and a memorandum of understanding created which is binding on our parent bodies , organisations operating in the region and all well meaning people to cater for the social responsibility of the Niger Delta Students under the NIDSUG platform and yet the union has experience many neglect from the appropriate authorities.
Congress call on all the appropriate authorities and parent bodies to prioritise the welfare of the Niger Delta Students by giving them their pride of place and to incorporate the union in their scheme of programs and project as was originally conceptualized as the Students wing of the Niger Delta Struggle. And that the National leadership should ensure Niger Delta Students Scholarship and empowerment meant for the Students are channelled to the NIDSUG leadership at the various level.
Congress urge the National Executive council to constitute Convention planning Committee and the electoral committee in the coming days that will usher in new leadership that will pilot the affairs of the Union.
Congress demands that a constitution review committee be set up immediately to review and effect several grey areas in the NIDSUG Constitution to meet the aspirations of the Niger Delta Students that suit demands of current realities and as well provide equal level playing ground for the political Niger Delta State Abia, Imo and Ondo to produce NIDSUG National President like their counterparts in the Six core south south of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers. And you this effect, the following persons who have contributed immensely to the growth of the Union were chosen in the congress to serve in the Constitution Review Committee and a period of three weeks is given to them to deliver.

NIDSUG thank His Excellency Sen. Prof. Ayade Ben the Exceutive Governor of Cross River State for appointing the immediate past National President of our Union Hon. Engr. Smart Edom into his cabinet as Senior Special Adviser and to the Vice Chancellor of the Prestigious University of Calabar.
Finally thanks to the National leadership of the Niger Delta Students Union Government(NIDSUG) led by Comr. Maloo Dgreat for proactive, purposeful, and productive leadership and for providing a level playing ground for all NIDSUG officials to be exceedingly relevant and resourceful: To NIDSUG life members/ Stakeholders for their advisory roles, To the AIG zone 6 for security support and finally to NIDSUG Cross River State Executive Council for her warmest hospitality and successful hosting.
