FROM THE OFFICE OF NANS NATIONAL DIRECTOR FOR CAMPUS SECURITY AND EMERGENCY INTERVENTION
RE: THE BRUTALIZATION OF TPI STUDENTS
I received with deep sadness, an unpleasant news that one of our students identified as Nurudeen Ademola Azeez sustained a critical injury from a gunshot by one of the testing ground police officers on Monday evening along Ikolaba axis of Ibadan, Oyo state.
Nurudeen, who is currently at a specialist hospital recieveing treatment was said to be travelling from Lagos to Ibadan for his project when this ugly incident happened.
As I join all Nigerian students in condemning this brutal and wicked act by the police officer, I ask that the perpetrator of such condemnable act be brought to book as this will serve as deterrence to other officers engaging in such brutal acts.
Equally, I am also joining the Nigerina students to demand for a swift justice for Tunde who was killed few weeks ago by the police.
Hence, our demand;
• We demand a stop to the illegal extortion, brutalization and harrasment of our students with or without their I.D cards as circumstances might permit.
• We ask that the government expedite all necessary actions to abet the quick recovery of Nurudeen and also provide a succor to Tunde’s parents who are currently grappling with the gravity of pain that accompanies his demise.
Failure to effect these demands means that the students will be left with no other option than to hit the street in protest as we cannot afford any more bloodshed of our students’ innocent lives. The Polytechnic of Ibadan Students are not Chickens! Ditto for Nigerian Students!
