A day of celebration and one of sober reflection. A day that resulted in the culmination of events that saw us identify our true heroes, both past and present. A day every youth must understand the “freedom” we clamour for is not to be achieved through violence nor bigotry, but through the collective progressive thinking of like minds to prosper our country.
The Alliance of Yoruba Youth Council Worldwide (AYYCW), Ogun State Council owe it upon herself to pass on the baton of hope to generations to come, and also to remind them of the sacrifices made and those still to be made. For us to always remember we are all bound to eachother and to our nation with a common debt.
It is unfortunate that what ought to be a source of strength for ourselves and our nation is gradually becoming the source of concern with resonation in the tune of forces challenging the corporate existence of one Nigeria.
Though, this seems to be a total departure from the vision of those that labored seriously after the annulment of 12th June, 1993 election in restoring the present democratic process but, it is understandable because of the negligence of the battle winners of this unforgettable struggle.
As the Apex Yoruba Youth Council, it is expected from us to alert in form of awareness to our Royal Fathers (Monarchs), Politicians, Artisans and undiluted stakeholders at all levels in ensuring unflinching commendations, recommendations and resolutions of the insecurity, kidnappings, killings, terrorism and political injustice which is currently bevelling the unity, growth and development of Nigeria.
Not quite long, the media was flooded with the news of the students kidnapped at Greenfield University in Kaduna State, killings of innocent souls in Igangan of Oyo State, Imeko Afon of Ogun State by the dreaded Fulani terrorists and herders. These happened after similar cases had occurred in other parts of the country.
This year democracy day remain the first ever since the announcement has been made by the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, hence, it is laced with challenges in all geopolitical zones in the country when we believe it is a time to highlight our landmark achievements, it saddens that we are counting deficits daily.
The importance of this day has not radiate in our democratic practice of today, despite the sacrifices made and fought by His Excellency, Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (M.K.O ) GCFR who was honoured by the current administration with the conferment of the highest rank and total respect for his immediate family left behind.
As a government and the governed, we need to include and involve our experience towards resolving and conquering the threats of lives by the Fulani herdsmen terrorists that have taken the advantages of our separations in encroaching into our community, environment, society and Nation as a whole.
Additionally, it is mandatory, compulsory and important to use this year’s anniversary to concentrate more on our equity, justice, fairness, unity and peaceful coexistence rather than clamouring for war.
We beseech Elédùmarè to continue granting the soul of His Excellency, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, GCFR eternal rest as he remain unforgettable in the history of true democracy in Nigeria.
Conclusively, let us continue as of the past in promoting love, peace and harmony within ourselves and also consistent in praying for ourselves, society, all South Western States and the country in general so as to progress forward in uniformity.
