The Osun state Police command has given a full report on the robbery incident that occurred in Ikire and Apomu on Wednesday evening.
In a statement on Thursday signed by the State Police spokesperson, SP Opalola Yemisi said that the robbery occurred at exactly 6:10pm on Wednesday.
The spokesperson revealed that the armed robbers numbering about thirty five (35) came in with about five vehicles and simultaneously attacked Ikire Divisional Police HQ and the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).
She revealed further that the armed robbers pinned down at Ikoyi-Osun with several explosive devices and several gun firing in a bid to subdue the capacity of the Police while attempting to rob First Bank in Ikire and Access Bank in Apomu respectively.
Yemisi disclosed that four policemen namely; ASP Osho Oluranti, Inspector Lekan Olalere, Special Constable Oladeni Olalekan and Special Constable Oyedeji Muyideen were shot dead in the process.
Yemisu disclosed further that three civilians were shot dead during the attack.
She stated: “On sighting the overwhelming Policemen Comprising: Prompt response Response Unit (PRU), CP’s Surveillance team, IRT Operatives, STS, 39 PMF, JTF, along with the local Security outfits,who swiftly engaged them in a fierce gun duel, the Robbers began to flee. While escaping, they shot sporadically, and regrettably three (3) Civilians were shot dead namely; Toheeb Oyebola, Temilorun Adebiyi and one other, (whose identity is not yet known), all male.
“They did not succeed robbing any of the Banks. The assailants fled to the bush with gun shot wounds, abandoning two of the operational vehicles they came with.
All the Corpses deposited at Oluyoro Catholic Hospital morgue, Apomu. Efforts is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing Suspects.”
