EKITI EAST BYE ELECTION SAGA WILL FUEL LACK OF TRUST IN NIGERIA’S ABILITY TO HOLD FAIR ELECTIONS
_______________________________

The leadership of NANS JCC EKITI AXIS believes that the conduct of periodic, competitive, participatory, credible and non-violent elections is one of the main yardsticks used to determine the democratic condition of a state.

As such, the result of Ekiti East bye Election is pivotal to fueling of lack of trust in Nigeria’s ability to hold free, fair and credible election.

Election that was meant to foster peace and unity was cancelled because voting was disrupted by hoodlums, this violence is most unwarranted and deeply disturbing, despite the party affiliation, we all must work together as a patriotic citizen to protect and defend sanity of the electoral process and secure lifes and properties during and after elections. This is a nonpartisan imperatives that we all must achieve together.

It also griefed our heart to receive a shocking message of the death of the police woman which name is said to be Sergeant Olawoye Bukola, who was shot during the election violence that followed the Ekiti East Constituency 1 Bye-Election on Saturday, lost her life in active service.

We also wish the Corp member who was injured quick recovery and to sustain his patriotic zeal, and never be dettered by the activity of political thug who distrupted the election at his polling unit. Corp members are apolitical and Nigerians should always treat Corp members deployed to their communities for National duties as their own siblings and must be protected by all and sundry.

It is very disheartening to keep seeing Election Process rough and creating unrest in this part of the world, Elections no be war isn’t just a slang we should just say with our lips opened but also with our heart for a free and fair Election.

We commiserate with the families of those reported to have been killed in the mayhem as well as those who sustained injuries.

We implore the Ekiti state Government to ensure that the perpetrator face the music regardless of their party affiliation.
