Brief Profile of Engr. Olusegun Okanlawon
Engr David Oluwasegun Okanlawon is an educationist, business oriented, visionary and philanthropist. He was born on June 20, 1985 in Mushin, Lagos State.
He had his early childhood at Mushin. He began his education at Adegoke Nursery and Primary School, Igbo-Ora in Ibarapa, Oyo State. On the successful completion of his primary education, he proceeded to Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo, Oyo State in 1996 for his secondary education.
His quest for educational advancement in life took him to the prestigious Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, where he bagged Bachelor of Technology degree in Agricultural Engineering. He holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree from the same institution.
Due to his business orientation, he started selling cars and supplying snails to eateries when he was studying at LAUTECH. Olusegun’s diverse experience in the private sector started from MP-Infrastructure Ltd, a contractor to Globacom Nigeria Telecommunication where he worked as their Maintenance and Power Engineer.
Due to his love for Civil Engineering, he resigned and moved to Port Harcourt in 2013 where he worked with Coastal Range Project Ltd and became an Highway Engineer to the company executing Niger Delta Developmental Commission (NDDC) projects from one community to other across the Niger Delta Region.
He not only seeks to live a distinguished life worthy of emulation and celebration; but also a life positively impacting on many individuals and the development of Oyo state and Nigeria at large.
In 2015, Oluwasegun distinguished himself as a brilliant Engineer. He travelled to Dubai to take some certification courses like, Bosiet and H2S (Opito Approved) e.t.c at Emirate International Maritime Academy (EIMA), Dubai. As intellectually adventurous as ever, on getting back to Nigeria he stepped out with one of his colleagues at Coastal Range Project Ltd and established Yemlogiks Global Services Ltd where he became the Project Director for this construction company. He also established his personal company: O4 Motors, subsidiary of O4 Multipurpose Unique Concept Limited, a logistics and construction company at Port Harcourt. He is a member of the Nigeria Institute of Highway and Transportation Engineers.
In 2017 , because of his desire to help people that want to travel abroad but do not have much money and with the way travel agencies in Nigeria are extorting people, Olusegun Okanlawon established a travel and tour company named Folased Travels and Tours Ltd to help the less privileged by subsidizing the price for them.
Being an advocate of strategic social investment and philanthropy, Oluwasegun founded a non-profit organisation, named OLUSEGUN OKANLAWON FOUNDATION a non-governmental organization focused on driving sustainable community development through strategic investment in socioeconomic endeavours in 2018. The Foundation seeks to restore hope, build capacity, and develop communities. The founding of OOF was a result of the formalizing of diverse developmental and philanthropic efforts of Engr. Okanlawon.
He is excited about the possibility of improving the quality of lives of many people. He is thus ambitious in his pursuit of impact for individuals, groups and communities. He has therefore been reaching out to state and federal governments as well as individuals with good will to work together to bring sustainable development to Ibarapa (in particular) and other parts of Nigeria in general.
Activities of the Foundation include the following, among others:
1. Sponsorship of SSCE registration for a less priviledged and intelligent student of Igbo-Ora High School, 2018
2. Sponsorship of UTME forms and registration for 120 beneficiaries from Ayete, Igbo-Ora, Idere, Igangan and Tapa, 5 communities in his beloved IBARAPA, selecting 20 beneficiaries each community and the remaining 20 forms from among family and friends (in 2018).
3. Sponsorship of UTME registration for 150 across the seven Ibarapa communities in 2019/2020.
4. Payment of NGN 30,000 for final year project of a non-Ibarara student of The Polytechnic, Ibadan resident in Igangan, Ibarapa.
5. Payment of NGN 100,000 hospital bill for a boy in Ogbomosho born with a congenital disformation, and mobilizing of over 1 million naira from friends for the boy.
6. 3 and a half years scholarship to an indigent but intelligent boy in one of the best private school in Port harcourt amounting to NGN 478,500
7. Donation of NGN 150,000 to his secondary school year set Olivet Baptist High School through Old Students Association to provide soft loans to small business owners among members (2019).
8. Linking up and fixing Ibarapa graduates with gainful employment.
9. Organizing and sponsoring of Ibarapa Football Tournament and Ibarapa Ayo & Draught Competition, with prizes of over 4million naira given to participants in 2019.
10. Hosting of the Ibarapa Festive Dinner 2019, where all the sons and daughters with our royal father were fully presents.
11.University Scholarahip for Kabirat, an outstanding student from Lanlate who passed diligently during the free jamb screening exercise
12. Organizing free CBT training for Jamb applicants
13. Sponsorship of 20 soccer players from Ibarapa for trials and selection (2019) and 3 coaches for coaching courses.
14. Production of sanitizer and procurement of nose covers to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Ibarapa
15.Full academic scholarship for Tansho (the youngest Fuji musician in Idere)
16.NIMC enrollment exercise in rotation between all the towns in Ibarapa.
17. Organizing and sponsoring of Ibarapa Football Tournament ,Marathon Race for both male and female ,Ibarapa Ayo & Draught Competition for male and female with over 7 Million in cash gift prizes including awards for winners in the 2020 sport programs
18. Launching of 100,000 naira graduates soft loan (2020) throughout the 7towns in ibarapa region.
19.Scholarship award to Eight (8) outstanding students who took part in the Idere Update Quiz Competition 2020
20.Academic scholarahip awarded to the winner in the maiden edition of Miss Ibarapa organized by Prem Prem Music
21. Cleared debts owed by a special student of federal college of Education Oyo (special) which deters him from graduating since 2016
22.Free eye treatment and complex treatment for all towns in Ibarapa at discounted rate (2021)
23.Ramadan welfare packages for Youth corp members in Porthacourt (2018)
24.Ongoing poor network rejuvenation programme facilitated by the foundation 2020-2021
25.Full academic scholarahip awarded to 13 year old Qudirat from Ibadan (2020).
26.Rehabilitation of damaged water system in Abola and Jagun farm settlements of Idere (2020)
