“About 500 Students Are Missing”- School Affirmed After Bandits Attacks Government Girls Seconary School

Gunmen have ferociously stormed Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting over 300 schoolgirls.

This sad development is coming on the heels of the abduction of dozens of schoolboys in Kagara, Niger State, a week ago.

Witnesses confirmed that the bandits attacked the Zamfara school, around 1:40am after destroying the gate.

Initial reports had earlier put the figure of the kidnapped students at 300, but sources in the school affirmed the number of abducted students as “about 500”.

Officials who requested anonymity said that there were over 600 students in the school, and less than 100 schoolgirls remain in the school after the attack.

The source said, “We took out the register this morning and made a headcount. Some students panicked and ran into town. But in the interim, we can say about 500 missing.”

Report ascertained that no officials were kidnapped by the bandits, who propelled the schoolgirls into the bush.
