3 years In Office: Hearty Congratulations To An Altruistic Governor

The Students’ Union Government, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, of over 35,000 students, with great enthusiasm, optimism, and gladness, felicitates His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE, the Executive Governor of Oyo State on this day of remarkable celebration of the successful completion of three years as the Governor of Oyo State.

Without an iota of doubt, His Excellency is a great man and father who has earned the right to be celebrated by every young and adult of this great citadel of learning and the entire University community, especially the students for his support and visionary leadership.

That His Excellency has been able to pull LAUTECH out of the precipice that it was almost falling in a couple of years ago is laudable and commendable. The purposeful leadership of the Governor in the last three years has helped steer the University in the right direction and has proved to every doubting Thomases and Tabithas that as far as governance is concerned in Oyo State, the Governor is exceptional. With these (amongst others), the Governor is deserving of being referred to as the “GOD SENT MAN” to LAUTECH.

Across the State and all sectors, there is visible action of a diligently working Governor, who has defied all the setbacks of governance and put it on the trajectory of accelerated development. Today, every aspect of the State’s economy has had your ‘magical’ hands of industrialization, as there are numerous projects either completed or about to be completed (across the nooks and crannies of the State), with an unprecedented prompt payment of salaries and gratuities.

However, it is our conviction, that, in years to come, the legacies of your leadership and contributions to the growth and uplifting of our dear State will not be forgotten. This memo is not complete without exalting our very own Governor, Engineer Seyi Abiodun Makinde on his tremendous achievements and successes over LAUTECH.

The achievements such as:
1. Sole ownership of the University that saved us from the ultimate crisis that could have befallen us.
2. Reduction in tuition fees by 25%.
3. Release of Subvention and payment of 9/10 month salary arrears owed by the previous administration.
4. Light-Up Oyo State reaching the University Community.
5. Construction of 3km Under G-Stadium Road and a lot more.

As we celebrate these great achievements of Your Excellency on this day, be assured that we will not let the success story be short-lived as the steady and non-bumpy academic calendars you envisioned for LAUTECH are now being tottered by the solidarity strike that the Staff Unions have embarked on since February 14th, 2022.

It is on this basis that, as the Students’ Body, we make bold to declare that we are tired of being delayed. We commend your intervention in the strike action embarked upon by members of the Staff Unions of the University through the resumption memo that was released by the University Management, However, we implore Your Excellency to take a step forward by convening a round-table meeting involving the Governing Council, the Management, Staff Unions, Students’ Union, Parents forum, Alumni Association, and all other Concerned Relevant Stakeholders to help resolve this matter once and for all as your prompt attention will also help to prevent similar issues from happening in the future.

We appreciate you for bringing the best out of LAUTECH and Oyo State at large.

Long live GSM
Long live LAUTECH
Long live OYO STATE
